Nunasi Donates to Christmas Celebrations for Nunavummiut

Iqaluit, NU (December 18, 2013) – Nunasi Corporation Chairperson, Okalik Eegeesiak is pleased to announce that Nunasi has contributed $15 000 for Christmas celebrations.

Nunasi has donated $500 to all 25 communities in Nunavut, the Tungasuvvingat Inuit in Ottawa, Larga Baffin in Ottawa, Larga Kivalliq in Winnipeg, Larga Ltd. in Edmonton, and Larga Kitikmeot in Yellowknife.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The weather outside is frightful but the Christmas games are so delightful. The Board is delighted to contribute to the joyous festive atmosphere that will fill our community halls across Nunavut.” Said Eegeesiak.

While the Hamlets are busy planning Christmas games and dances, the Larga homes will also be hosting Christmas celebrations for the patients who are not going to be in their home communities during the holidays.

2013 Nunasi Scholarship Recipients Announced

Iqaluit, NU (October 15, 2013) – Nunasi Corporation in partnerships with Nuna Logistics, NCC Investment Group Inc., Polar Vision Centres Ltd. and Larga Kitikmeot are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Nunasi Scholarships;

  • Zachary Cousins, Iqaluit, NU, studying Computer Systems Engineering at Carleton University;
  • Norma Dunning, Edmonton, AB, studying to earn her Master of Arts – Native Studies at the University of Alberta;
  • Alyssa Flaherty-Spence, Iqaluit, NU, starting the Juris Doctor – JD/USA/Canada program at Ottawa University;
  • Napatsi Folger, Iqaluit, NU, studying to earn an honours bachelor’s degree – humanities at the University of Toronto;
  • Lynn Kilabuk, Pangnirtung, NU, studying to earn her bachelor’s degree in education at Nunavut Arctic College;
  • Nadia Sammurtok, Rankin Inlet, NU, studying to earn her bachelor’s degree in education at
    Nunavut Arctic College;
  • Anita Uuttuvak, Pond Inlet, NU, studying to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology;
  • Laakkuluk Williamson-Bathory, Iqaluit, NU, studying to earn her master’s degree in transcultural psychiatry at McGill University;
  • Krista Zawadski, Rankin Inlet, NU, studying anthropology at the University of British Columbia; and
  • Dianne Iyago, Baker Lake, NU, studying to earn her Bachelor of Science in the Nunavut Arctic College nursing program, receives the Glenna Zelinski Polar Vision Scholarship.

The 2013 Nunasi Scholarships have been awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to their studies. Glenna Zelinski (1970 – 2002) worked with Polar Vision Centres from 1994 to
2002. She was a dedicated employee who showed compassion for all customers. In memory of Glenna Polar Vision Centres and Nunasi Corporation are pleased to award a scholarship.


New Nunasi Company to Offer Financial Services and Conference Facilities


YELLOWKNIFE, NT (August 27, 2013) – Nunasi Corporation is pleased to announce the creation of their newest subsidiary company; Nunasi Financial Services Limited. This new full-service bookkeeping and conference services company will be located on the 2nd Floor of the Nunasi Building on 48th Street in Yellowknife.

“Our bookkeeping staff has done such a great job providing bookkeeping services to
our subsidiary companies over the years, that we have decided to expand these services and make them available to other businesses and organizations. I look forward to sharing our successes of this growing company with our partners” said Okalik Eegeesiak, Chairperson, Nunasi Corporation.

Nunasi Financial Services will also operate NFS Conference Services from this location allowing its clients to have the convenience of hosting their regular meetings, AGMs, as well as other events in the NFS conference facilities. NFS Conference Services will also offer in-depth conference and event planning services.

Scarlet Security Acquires SECURECheck Ltd


Yellowknife, NWT (Feb. 20, 2013) – Scarlet Security Services is pleased to announce the acquisition of SECURECheck from Nunasi Corporation. The transaction will close on March 1st, 2013 with all SECURECheck line employees joining Scarlet. In addition, Scarlet Security operations (as well those of its sister company Twilite Security Ltd.) will be consolidated at the current SECURECheck location within the Nunasi Corporation Yellowknife office.

Scarlet Security is a remote services incorporated entity, specializing in safety, security and screening support for remote mining, ice roads, pipeline and oil & gas projects.

The acquisition of SECURECheck further expands
Scarlet’s remote operations by adding both new regions and complimentary services. Scarlet President Patrick Doyle commented, “SECURECheck is an excellent company that I am proud to add to our brand. I’m excited to see us continue to expand our capabilities and improve the quality and depth of our service to our northern customers.
